Hort Club is a social impact organization of Landscape Horticulturists in Manitoba.

We support apprentices through tutoring, fundraising and being their voice in the industry.

Everything we make or do is reinvested into resources for apprentices, not stakeholders.

Our Story

From Classroom Conversations to Industry Advocates

In 2022, our founder, Benjamin Schofield, started Hort Club when he was an apprentice. Without any student union or trade guild to support Landscape Horticulturists during their apprenticeship journey, he saw a need for a ‘boots on the ground’ peer support system.

What started with shared notes and study sessions quickly grew into something much more—a thriving, grassroots network of skilled workers united by a shared passion for plants, people, and purpose.

Today, Hort Club and its evolving Discord Community form a dynamic resource hub for tutoring, study, fundraising and advocacy. We bring together apprentices, journeypersons, and industry allies in Manitoba.

Our community supports career development, celebrates excellence in landscape practice, and works to elevate the visibility and value of our trade.

Hort Club is associated with the Professional Development Committee tied to Manitoba Nursery Landscape Association.

We are members, and we support their mandate to develop a unified sense of community within the sector aimed at developing a supporting environment.
